Peace and Stability Amidst the Finance Bill 2024 Protests
The Association of Public Sector General Suppliers (APSGS) acknowledges the concerns raised by various stakeholders regarding the Finance Bill 2024 and the ongoing protests that began on June 25, 2024. As key players in the public procurement sector, we emphasize the importance of dialogue, stability, and a peaceful resolution to the ongoing situation.
We recognize that financial policies significantly impact businesses, supply chains, and economic growth. However, we urge all stakeholders—government institutions, policymakers, business communities, and the general public—to engage in constructive discussions to address grievances without resorting to violence or disruptions that may harm the economy.
The APSGS calls for:
- Peaceful Engagement – We encourage all parties to seek solutions through open and respectful dialogue while respecting the rule of law.
- Business Continuity – Stability in the public sector procurement and supply chain is vital for the provision of essential goods and services. We advocate for measures that protect businesses from adverse disruptions.
- Government Commitment – We urge the government to listen to industry concerns, ensure fair taxation policies, and create a conducive business environment that supports economic growth and job creation.
- Public Order and Safety – While the right to protest is constitutionally guaranteed, we appeal for calm, responsibility, and the protection of lives and property.
As an association, we remain committed to engaging with policymakers to seek balanced and practical solutions that safeguard the interests of public sector suppliers and the broader economy. We stand in solidarity with all stakeholders in ensuring that Kenya moves forward in unity, peace, and sustainable economic progress.
Signed,
